Library Media Clerk

Job Goal: Assists in the organization and operation of the library media program as directed and works collaboratively with teachers, administrators and the SBDM Council to promote information literacy as they help students to access, synthesize, produce and communicate information.

Reports to: Library Media Specialist and Principal

Terms of Employment: Compensation will be determined based on 185 contract days on the board approved 104 salary schedule. This position requires a 6.5 hour workday in elementary and a 7-hour workday in middle/high school.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate
  • Proficiency in secretarial skills and library media tasks.
  • Push, pull or lift 40 pounds; kneel and reach above your head.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Processes new materials: prepares books, periodicals, and non-print materials for shelves.
  • Assists in the management and circulation of library media materials; uses library management program to help students and teachers locate and check out materials; checks in and shelves materials; records circulation statistics; prepares overdue notices; works with annual inventory and withdrawal of materials; mends books and periodicals; implements schedule of KET and video recording and playback.
  • Prepares materials: uses word processor for correspondence, requisitions, bibliographies, newsletters, statistical reports, and any other materials requested by the LMS; assists in preparing instructional materials, exhibits, and bulletin boards.
  • Assist students: Help students find materials; read stories.
  • Serves as a substitute for the LMS during short term absences.
