Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions: Under general direction, reviews and analyzes crime reports; interprets pattern and trends; disseminates information and makes recommendations related to possible suspects, potential crimes, location of future crimes and methods of operation; monitors, analyzes and evaluates patterns and trends of criminal activity using statistical analysis and other analytical methodologies to assist the department in meeting objectives; prepares comprehensive analytical products and reports including crime bulletins and summaries; recommends investigative direction; provides oral briefings and presentations; facilitates intelligence and crime analysis meetings; researches, retrieves and evaluates confidential information related to complex criminal investigations; creates automated files, databases and spreadsheets for information management functions; interprets information regarding criminal activity in internal and external reports, registers, records and databases; establishes and maintains professional contacts with experts, analytical counterparts, educators and researchers; serves as liaison with other agencies and the public; responds to requests for crime information from the news media, civic organizations, general public and outside agencies; participates in the training of various criminal investigative techniques.

Other Job Functions: This position will be responsible for the handling of equipment and hardware related to both overt and covert cameras and camera systems. This includes maintaining an inventory of parts, and the assembly, installation, and repair of camera systems. These in-house technology systems may or may not be directly related to the RTCC. Must be well-versed in camera, computer and networking technologies, as well as how they are used in furtherance of the department's mission. Performs other duties as required. Working Conditions

This position requires 100% on-site work. Works indoors in normal office environment. Must be available to work 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and extended hours when necessary.

Minimum Essential Qualifications

Knowledge: Knowledge of computers, including relevant spreadsheet, graphic, mapping, mainframe and network applications, word processing, the internet, and other computer software; knowledge of research techniques; knowledge of interviewing techniques and methods; knowledge of modern police record systems; knowledge of Business English, spelling and punctuation; knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; knowledge of offense elements as specified by Texas Penal Code desired; knowledge of TCIC/NCIC computerized database and proper procedures for use also desired.

Skills/Abilities: Skill in recording and organizing data, and in identifying and using potential sources of data; skill in determining appropriate visual presentations of statistical and/or factual data; skill in developing effective data collection procedures; skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; skill in maintaining accurate detailed records; ability to interpret and understand criminal law, Code of Criminal Procedure, city ordinances, policies and procedures; ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, as well as in preparation of comprehensive reports; ability to operate a variety of office equipment including, but not limited to, PC, fax machine, typewriter, calculator and copier; ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to, seeing, sorting, typing and writing; ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound; ability to assemble, install, repair, and maintain various camera equipment.

Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; frequently sits, stands, walks, bends, drives vehicle, operates computer, kneels, crouches, squats, stoops, climbs, and lifts and carries objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; infrequently pushes, pulls and drags objects weighing over 50 lbs.

Education: Two (2) years' experience in crime research, crime analysis, or a closely related field is required. A Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Statistics, Computer Science or related field is preferred. Possession of a Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification required within six (6) months of assignment.

This position requires 100% on-site work. Must possess a valid Texas drivers license Class C a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
