The Job
San Bernardino County is recruiting for Crime Analysts who conduct research and perform analysis of crime statistics for use in planning law enforcement activities. Duties include collecting, compiling, and analyzing data; preparing reports, records and correspondence summarizing data collected; preparing charts, maps, graphs and other visual presentations; attending briefings; making oral and written presentations; monitoring trends, media, and critical events that may impact our area of responsibility and provide support for Field Operations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1) Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.
2) Availability: This department is a "24/7" operation. Applicants must be available for all shifts, including mandatory overtime; refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination. The incumbents will be required to work rotating, night, weekend, day, on-call, and graveyard shifts, as well as holidays and weekends.
3) Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE EXPERIENCE AND ONE OF THE EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION OPTIONS:
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience within a law enforcement, public safety, or criminal justice agency.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION (Must meet one of the following options):
Option 1:Certificate from an accredited program of study in Crime and Intelligence Analysis.Option 2:
Associate degree or higher in crime analysis, intelligence analysis, criminal justice, geographic information systems, public administration, statistics, research methodology, or a closely related field.
Internship exception:
Applications will be accepted from candidates who have completed all required coursework for the certificate or degree in crime and intelligence analysis but have not yet received it pending completion of internship. A legible copy of your college transcripts that includes ALL completed coursework must be attached to the application (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
Coursework accreditation:
All qualifying coursework, certificates or degrees used to qualify or as a substitution must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelors degree from a recognized college with major coursework in criminal justice, statistics, geographic information sciences, behavioral science, or public administration.
Possession of a Crime and Intelligence Analysis Certificate or Degree from an accredited college or university program.
Selection Process
Examination: There will be a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire. It is to your advantage to provide as much relevant and detailed work experience as possible, as resumes will not be reviewed in lieu of the application materials.
The most highly qualified candidates, based on the results of the evaluation, may be referred to a selection interview.
