Criminal Investigator, Special Investigations Unit (SIU)

Salary: Starting at $92,768 - Depends on Experience (DOE).

Primary Duties:

This is a sworn law-enforcement position within the Idaho Office of the Attorney General (OAG) assigned to the Special Investigations Unit. The Special Investigations Unit handles public corruption cases involving elected county and city officials and felony-level referrals from local law enforcement agencies.

All criminal investigators are assigned felony-level cases and must be capable of conducting investigations with little or no supervision. Primary job duties of OAG investigator include conducting interviews, obtaining and analyzing documents and other evidence, serving subpoenas, obtaining and executing search warrants, preparing reports and exhibits, maintaining investigative case files, testifying in court, and interfacing with other law enforcement agencies.

Frequent travel throughout Idaho is required.

The Office of the Attorney General prioritizes the mental health and wellbeing of all ICAC personnel. Each ICAC prosecutor is required to meet with a mental health professional annually.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current Idaho POST Certification or eligible to take the Idaho POST Challenge Exam.
• High-school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years of law-enforcement experience, preferable with an emphasis in investigations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Thorough understanding of laws, policies, and rules of evidence applicable to Idaho law-enforcement service.
• Ability to work in a close-knot team environment with other investigators and prosecutors.
• Must have the ability to frequently travel throughout Idaho.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Enthusiasm for public service.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced Idaho POST Certification.
• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field.
• Experience in specialized investigations, preferably in public corruption or white-collar fraud, but may include ICAC, narcotics, cybercrime, human trafficking, organized crime, counterterrorism, missing persons, or other specialty.
• Familiarity with current technology, forensic software, and investigative equipment.
• Advanced training in dignitary/executive protection, surveillance, or tactical operations.
• Idaho POST instructor certification or completion of an instructor-development course.
