Position Summary

Responsible to the Department Chair and Chief Instructional Officer for instruction of Criminal Justice and Leadership courses, as offered at Marion Military Institute and in the performance of various duties. These duties require a minimum of 35 hours of on-campus work per week and include the following kinds of responsibilities: Instructional duties, duties to students, divisional duties, institutional duties, and personal and professional duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to adhering to general faculty policies and guidelines specified by the Alabama Community College System, MMI Faculty/Staff Handbook, and the Chief Instructional Officer, the successful candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Provide quality instruction in college-level criminal justice and leadership courses that the Department Chair and Chief Instructional Officer agree will be taught.
  • Work with the History and Social Science Department Chair and The Director of the AAS in Criminal Justice to develop and maintain objectives and course learning outcomes and provide evidence of measurement, analysis, and accomplishments.
  • Perform required reporting with strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Develop, distribute, and adhere to detailed syllabi, including course outlines, in accordance with the MMI syllabus model and requirements.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to meet departmental and college needs.
  • Maintain regularly-scheduled office hours, minimum of 10 on-campus office hours per week.
  • Participate in workshops and meetings to contribute to professional development.
  • Attend all departmental, faculty, and college meetings.
  • Maintain professional conduct in dealing with students, staff, administrators, faculty, and the college community.
  • Assist in enforcing all college policies and participate in faculty-related activities that attract and retain students.
  • Participate in college committees, as appropriate.
  • Support the College's vision, mission, goals, and strategic actions.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING:

  • Minimum of a master's degree in Criminal Justice or a master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice.
  • Record of successful teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Efficiency in the use of technology in the enhancement of instruction and communication.
  • Commitment to serving a diverse student population and varied professional development.
  • Ability to deal effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently and also function as an effective member of the instructional team.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous military experience or experience as a student/employee of a military institute or academy.

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:

None.

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience according to the Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule D for a nine-month contract ($46,590-62,916) based on education and experience.

Sick Leave

All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. Tuition Assistance

This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
