Nature of Work
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Division of Administrative Services (DAS), Justice and Community Services (JCS) section is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Criminal Justice Specialist 3 to operate within a fast-paced, multi-tasking office environment.
Working under limited supervision, the incumbent will manage high-level state and federal grant programs, which includes writing and applying for millions of dollars in new funding, administering existing grant funds, and maintaining precise financial and programmatic tracking systems. Key compliance responsibilities involve reviewing and approving or denying all sub-recipient grant adjustment requests, conducting monthly technical assistance calls, managing the electronic grant filing system, and performing weekly audits on federal, state, and sub-recipient files. Additionally, this role is responsible for submitting comprehensive progress reports (quarterly, semi-annual, and annual) for all administered programs, supporting statewide committees, advisory boards, and task forces, and coordinating the annual grant review process. This process includes overseeing applicant correspondence and preparing investment packages for recommended funding awards to be submitted to the Office of the Governor for final approval.
The position may also entail supervisory duties, such as managing workflow, scheduling, delegating tasks, and assessing the performance of lower-level Criminal Justice Specialists to ensure departmental goals are met. Candidates must possess a valid drivers license and will be subject to a comprehensive background inquiry-including criminal records, abuse registry records, driving history, and educational verification-where a failure to cooperate or the discovery of false or disqualifying information will result in immediate denial of employment.
