Unit Details: ED Holding is the primary unit for this assignment. It is a fast-paced, mixed-diagnosis unit that includes isolation and non-ambulatory patients. ICU case mix includes respiratory failure, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, complicated postoperative patients, CVAs, post-arrest patients, ETOH, and IVDA. ICU higher-level therapies include Rotoprone, manual proning, hypothermia protocol, CRRT, and TPA; flap-surgery patients will not be assigned. Patients with craniotomies, major trauma, or major cardiothoracic cases will not be assigned. PCU case mix includes respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, general medical/surgical patients, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and orthopedic cases. Med-Surg areas include oncology patients who are neutropenic or postoperative, psych patients, general medical-surgical patients, orthopedic patients, and palliative patients; cases include postoperative care, COPD, CHF, sepsis, DVT, AKI, dialysis, COVID, total joints, pneumonia, PE, occasional surgical patients, and general medical overflow. COVID is common on this floor, and COVID overflow may also be assigned. Rehab patients include stroke, spinal cord injury, TBI, multi-trauma, post-COVID, and post-ICU cases. Vents and trachs are on the unit, patients have med-surg-level acuity, and respiratory therapy provides just-in-time training. Patient ratios vary by unit and acuity: ICU 1:2 based on acuity; PCU and CCU 1:4 depending on acuity or whether a patient is discharging; medical and surgical 1:5. ED Holding assignments include ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, and MS 1:5; ICU and PCU nurses will have a 1:5 assignment when caring for MS patients. Rehab uses a 2:8 team model with an RN, LPN, and tech. ACLS transport duties include transporting patients throughout the hospital, including inpatient units, the ED, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, PACU, and the Cath Lab. After 2300, transports slow down, and the ACLS RN serves as a resource in ED Holds for breaks and medication administration when not transporting a patient. Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing are used.
Floating Requirements: The clinician could float for partial shifts. The clinician will float within their scope of practice and below. If a PCU nurse floats to MS, the assignment will have a 1:5 ratio.
Special Requests: Any RTO or special requests not included on your application will not be considered. You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility.
