We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Critical Care Transport Nurse to join our Occupational Health and Emergency Medical Services team. This position will provide advanced nursing care and medical transport support for critically ill or injured employees and patients requiring transfer to appropriate healthcare facilities.
The Critical Care Transport Nurse will be responsible for providing advanced nursing assessment, stabilization, monitoring, and treatment to critically ill or injured patients during ground or air medical transport. The successful candidate will work closely with emergency medical personnel, physicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective patient care throughout the transport process.
This role requires strong critical-care nursing experience, excellent clinical judgment, the ability to respond effectively to medical emergencies, and the capacity to work independently in high-pressure and rapidly changing environments.
Assess, stabilize, and provide advanced nursing care to critically ill and injured patients before and during medical transport.
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and continuously monitor patient condition throughout transport.
Manage patients requiring advanced airway support, mechanical ventilation, cardiac monitoring, and other critical-care interventions.
Administer medications, intravenous fluids, blood products, and emergency treatments according to established protocols and physician orders.
Monitor and interpret vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygen saturation, and other critical clinical indicators.
Respond rapidly to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate emergency interventions.
Operate and monitor specialized medical equipment used during critical-care transport.
Collaborate with physicians, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, and other members of the transport team.
Coordinate patient transfers between company facilities, rural healthcare locations, emergency departments, trauma centers, and specialty hospitals.
Communicate patient status and clinical information accurately to receiving healthcare teams.
Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of patient assessments, treatments, medications, interventions, and transport activities.
Ensure compliance with infection-control procedures, patient safety requirements, and emergency medical protocols.
Assist with emergency response planning and medical preparedness at agricultural and production facilities.
Participate in employee emergency response training, drills, and workplace safety initiatives.
Maintain readiness of critical-care transport equipment, medications, and emergency supplies.
Stay current with evidence-based critical-care nursing practices, emergency medicine, and transport nursing standards.
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in an intensive care unit (ICU), emergency department (ED), trauma center, or critical-care transport environment.
Strong knowledge of critical-care nursing, emergency medicine, and patient stabilization.
Experience managing critically ill patients requiring advanced monitoring and life-support interventions.
Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, intravenous therapy, medication administration, and emergency nursing procedures.
Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, and rapid decision-making skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Ability to remain calm and provide effective care in high-pressure emergency situations.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary emergency and healthcare teams.
Proficiency in clinical documentation and electronic medical record systems.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) or Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN) certification.
Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification.
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification.
Experience in ground ambulance or air medical transport.
Experience with ventilator management and advanced airway care.
Experience working in rural healthcare, occupational health, industrial healthcare, or emergency response environments.
Familiarity with agricultural and production facility safety procedures is a plus.
The Critical Care Transport Nurse may work in a combination of clinical settings, ambulances, medical transport vehicles, aircraft, agricultural facilities, and outdoor environments.
The position may involve exposure to changing weather conditions, machinery, noise, and physically demanding environments. The nurse must be capable of assisting with patient lifting, positioning, and transport activities.
The role may require flexible scheduling, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts. Occasional or frequent travel between company facilities and healthcare locations may be required.
