Operating Engineer – Critical EnvironmentsOperating Engineer, Critical Environments will have a strong focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing facility equipment on all systems. Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) and be multi‑skilled in others to successfully complete daily/weekly work assignments.Day‑to‑day responsibilitiesMaintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all data center systems to maintain 100% uptime, including fire/life safety, mechanical systems (HVAC, chillers, CRAC, CRAH, plumbing, controls), electrical including emergency backup systems (lighting, UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, generators, primary switchgear, power distribution, transformers), and hot water systems.Monitor operation, adjust, and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment; boilers, ventilating and water heaters; pumps, valves, piping, and filters; other mechanical and electrical equipment.Record readings and adjust as necessary to ensure proper operation of equipment.Monitor building management systems and respond to alarms and alerts promptly.Analyze operation of various systems, determine causes of problems/malfunctions, and take corrective action.Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean and safe workplace.Learn and understand the data center site to manage incidents and events that put critical systems at risk.Work‑order management, including CMMS, vendor management, and customer‑facing tickets.Understand and comply with emergency escalation procedures.Perform additional job duties as required.Required experience and technical skillsHigh School diploma or GED equivalent.4+ years related work experience.Experience with systems, emergency generators, and switchgears.Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, regulations and codes.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak effectively before small groups of tenants or employees.Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.Professional interaction with tenants and contractors.Ability to work different schedules, holidays, and respond to site emergencies.Preferred qualificationsCorrigo experience.Microsoft Office.Hands‑on experience working in a data center/critical facility, including UPS.Physical requirementsWalking large, campus‑like settings.Frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and working/extending overhead.Lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.Climbing stairs and navigating rooftops to access equipment.Using ladders up to 30 ft and working from heights with a 300‑lb weight limit.LocationOn‑site – Charlotte, NCThis position does not provide visa sponsorship.
