Overview

The Service Electrician - Second Shift is responsible for providing after-hours electrical operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair support for a mission-critical data center. This role supports electrical system reliability, safety, and performance during second-shift operations, including scheduled maintenance windows, alarm response, and shift turnover with day-shift teams.

The position requires strong technical expertise, independent judgment, clear documentation, and strict adherence to mission-critical procedures.

Pay: $45.00 per hour plus uplift for night shift

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical systems, including switchgear, panels, breakers, transformers, lighting systems, receptacles, and power distribution equipment.
  • Support electrical infrastructure associated with critical systems, including UPS systems, generators, ATS/STS equipment, and emergency power distribution, within contract scope and qualifications.
  • Monitor electrical systems and respond to alarms, alerts, and service requests during second shift.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues using appropriate testing equipment and approved procedures.
  • Execute all work in accordance with approved SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, lockout/tagout, arc-flash requirements, and change-control processes.
  • Support planned maintenance activities and minor electrical work scheduled during second-shift maintenance windows.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical, HVAC, Controls, and Chiller teams to support integrated system operations.
  • Escort and oversee third-party electrical contractors, OEM technicians, or vendors performing after-hours work.
  • Provide clear and accurate shift turnover documentation to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Accurately record all work performed, findings, and corrective actions in the CMMS.
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety requirements, applicable codes, environmental policies, and company standards.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 4-6 years of commercial or industrial electrical experience; mission-critical or data center experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and critical power infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Proficient in the use of electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to work independently during off-peak hours with minimal supervision while following escalation procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, especially for shift handoffs, escalation, and written documentation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school preferred.

Preferred Certifications / Training

  • Journeyman Electrician license or state-recognized equivalent preferred
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred
  • NFPA 70E training preferred
  • Data center or critical facilities training preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and work in electrical and mechanical rooms for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights as required.

Work Environment

  • Mission-critical data center environment requiring high attention to detail, procedural discipline, safety awareness, and reliable shift documentation.
  • Second-shift coverage; occasional extended hours or emergency response may be required.
