Scott High School
Position Purpose
Salary: As per BCS Extra Curricular Salary Schedule
The Cross Country Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of the Scott High School Cross Country program. The coach shall promote academic achievement, sportsmanship, character development, and athletic excellence while ensuring compliance with all West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC), Boone County Schools, and school regulations.

Qualifications
- Holds valid WVSSAC coaching authorization and all required certifications.
- Maintains current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications as required.
- Meets all Boone County Schools and WVSSAC employment requirements.
- Demonstrates knowledge of cross country coaching techniques, training methods, and athlete development.
- Possesses effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Successfully completes all required background checks and training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership
- Organize, supervise, and administer the Scott High School Cross Country program.
- Develop and implement practice plans designed to improve individual and team performance.
- Teach proper running techniques, conditioning methods, race strategies, and sportsmanship.
- Promote a positive team culture that emphasizes discipline, respect, teamwork, and character.
Student-Athlete Development
- Encourage academic success and monitor student-athlete eligibility.
- Foster leadership, responsibility, and good citizenship among student-athletes.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during practices, competitions, and team activities.
- Provide appropriate supervision at all team functions.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records, inventories, schedules, and required reports.
- Assist with scheduling meets and coordinating transportation needs.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, school administration, and athletic department personnel.
- Ensure compliance with WVSSAC rules, Boone County Schools policies, and school procedures.
Equipment and Facilities
- Maintain, inventory, and secure all equipment issued to the cross country program.
- Report facility and equipment needs to the Athletic Director and Principal.
- Promote proper care and stewardship of school property.
Community and Public Relations
- Represent Scott High School and Boone County Schools in a professional manner.
- Promote positive relationships with parents, community members, officials, and opposing schools.
- Support athletic department initiatives and school activities.
Physical Demands
The position requires standing, walking, running, demonstrating athletic skills, traveling with teams, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. The coach must be able to supervise student-athletes during practices and competitions safely and effectively.
Evaluation
Performance shall be evaluated by the Principal and Athletic Director in accordance with Boone County Schools policies and procedures.
Terms of Employment
Salary shall be established according to the Boone County Schools Supplemental Salary Schedule and approved by the Boone County Board of Education.
