JOB TITLE: Crossing Guard DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Public SafetySUMMARY OF FUNCTIONDirects actions of children and traffic at street intersections and school entrances to ensure safe crossings; monitors and enforces school zone speed limits.This position is a non-supervisory classification and receives limited supervision, consulting with Field Supervisor in unusual situations.REPORTS TO: Community Resources OfficerESSENTIAL TASKSPatrols street crossings and school entrances during hours when children are going to and coming from school.Directs the actions of children and trafficEscorts children across the streetRecords license numbers of vehicles disregarding the school zone speed limitPlaces and removes caution signs and conesCautions drivers of speeding vehicles by use of whistles and/or hand signalsKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITESThis job requires some physical exertion such as walking, climbing, bending, stooping, stretching, or similar activities.
