Crossing Guard

Job Advertisement\n \nCity of Portsmouth is looking for 2 crossing guards for the morning shift. The schedule is Monday-Friday 7:35am-8:05am. Pay rate for this position is $25 per crossing. Training for this position will take place on August 7th 2024 at 9:30am at the Department of Public Works. Traffic control devices and protective clothing are provided by the city. This position performs responsible human support and protective service work in stopping and directing traffic in conjunction with the moving of children to and from school. \n \nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\n \nThe essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar; related; or a logical assignment to; or extension of; the position.\n\n Assisting children with crossing the street with going to/from school.\n \n\n Stops and controls vehicular traffic at designated crossings to allow children to cross safely.\n \n\n Assist children using the crossing to assure that they conform to traffic regulations.\n \n\n Takes appropriate action with children who fail to cooperate and reports such action to immediate supervisor.\n \n\n Reports motorists who fail to observe safe motor vehicle operation in school crossing zone.\n \n\n Checks traffic signals for proper operation and reports malfunctions.\n \n\n Directs traffic when necessary; stops traffic to allow school buses to enter and exit school property.\n \n\n Direct street crossings for parades and other special events as needed.\n \n\n* Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.\n \nWork Environment\n \nWork is performed outside in all types of weather and is primarily of a physical nature.\n \nMINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS\n \nApplicants for this position must have graduated from high school or have a graduate equivalent diploma (GED) and a valid drivers license. \n \nPhysical and Mental Requirements\n \nA guard should have good vision; hearing and mobility; be able to stand for long periods of time outdoors and communicate clearly with children and adults.\n \nFull Job Description\n \nCrossing Guard.pdf\n \nDisclaimer\n \nThe essential functions and duties described herein are normal for this position.
