Part-Time/Hourly position

The Department
The Parks and Recreation Department oversees Parks and Programs, REACH, Senior Services, Contract Classes, Media and Communications, Special Events, Transportation, and the Pico Rivera Golf Course.
The amenities provided by the Parks and Recreation Department are enjoyed by thousands of people every year. The amenities include 100 acres of parks and open spaces, swimming pool, athletic fields, walking paths, Senior Center, and batting cages.
The Position
Under direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Crossing Guard/Substitute Crossing Guard may be assigned to posts throughout the City when schools are in session. Hours vary depending on post assignment. A Crossing Guard assists pedestrians to safely walk or bicycle to and from school when crossing public intersections. A Crossing Guard identifies gaps in traffic and leads children across the crosswalk. A Crossing Guard does not direct traffic.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more is also required. Acute hearing is also required in providing customer service to public and/or assistance in facility, classroom, or outdoors. Will also be working in outdoor area and may be exposed to loud noises and extreme weather conditions.
Licenses and Certifications
Veterans credit will amount to 10 points to be added to the interview score. Proof of honorable discharge must be submitted with the application materials in order to be eligible for veterans credit. Veterans who wish to utilize this credit must have served on a full-time basis (not reserve or auxiliary) in the armed forces for a minimum of six months (180 days).
TESTING:
Candidates who pass all qualifying phases of the recruitment process (e.g., minimum qualification review, written and/or oral examinations) will be placed in an eligibility pool for the hiring department to initiate the selection process. Work schedule coincides with the El Rancho Unified School District and Montebello Unified School District calendars (ERUSD and MUSD are closed during school holidays, furlough days, winter, spring, and summer recesses). Hours vary depending on post assignment. Example of a typical days work schedule is: 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.; 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; to include 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on modified school days.
Physical/Background Check
Upon conditional offer the selected candidate will be subject to background and reference checks and will be required to satisfactorily complete a post offer physical examination including a drug screen at the Citys expense.

Emergency Disaster Worker

Leave Time - Entitled to accrue leave time beginning on first day of work.
