Crowds Artist
Location: Burbank, California, United States
Job Summary: Walt Disney Animation Studios is looking for inspired Crowd Artists, with strong artistic abilities layered on top of solid technical foundations, to work on populating our features with world-class crowds.
Responsibilities:
- Support the story by populating scenes with crowd character assets and animation
- Collaborate with peers to address creative and technical notes
- Forthcoming with solutions and ideas, exhibiting openness to knowledge sharing
- Develop and maintain crowds technology; identifying opportunities to improve tool and pipeline efficiency
- Design crowd character behaviors and set ups
- Team player, willing to collaborate with peers to address creative notes and resolve technical issues
- Able to proactively communicate accurate task estimates, and consistently meet deadlines
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Graphics, Computer Science, Engineering, and related fields, or equivalent experience
- Understanding of rigging and animation techniques
- Strong interest in Particle Systems, AI/Machine learning, or crowds systems (agent/brain design, simulation, and behavior)
- Experience with commercial graphics packages such as Houdini
- Solid understanding of the production processes and pipelines of CG Animation, VFX, or Video Game productions
- Ability to work with a team and collaborate closely with others within the department and other departments
- Strong problem solving abilities
- Knowledge of film language, demonstrating strong compositional skills
- Refined eye for detail, natural movement and timing
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python
- Experience with the Linux or Unix operating system
- Experience with Object Oriented programming such as C++
- Experience with USD

The pay rate for this role in Burbank, California is $60.69 to $75.95 per hour, which follows the pay scale agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidates geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
