Purpose of the Role: Oversee and manage the laboratory safety program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Lead safety initiatives, reduce risks, prevent incidents, and drive a strong safety culture. Key Responsibilities:
Lead safety projects to support a zero-incident culture.
Design, implement, and maintain environmental health and safety (EHS) programs, protocols, and a comprehensive risk matrix.
Investigate incidents of safety or environmental non-compliance with urgency; coordinate resolution actions.
Ensure preventative maintenance on safety systems is completed.
Develop accident prevention strategies and support emergency preparedness planning, including fire drills.
Partner with leadership to execute safety programs and provide guidance during crises.
Act as the primary contact for safety standards during internal and external inspections.
Ensure compliance with county, state, and local regulations; process permits, licenses, and reports as needed.
Coordinate and participate in inspections by environmental agencies.
Oversee hazardous waste management programs.
Advise operators to maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, CAP, and related standards.
Conduct routine safety audits and hazard inspections.
Maintain accurate records of training, inspections, incidents, and chemical inventory.
Complete monthly safety metrics and track leading/lagging indicators.
Review and document near misses, incidents, and corrective actions.
Present safety reports during leadership meetings and create improvement action plans.
Promote safe behaviors and culture through awareness events (e.g., National Safety Month, Fire Prevention Month).
Develop and deliver new hire, annual, and ongoing safety training programs.
Monitor changes in regulations and lead implementation of updates.
Must-Have Requirements:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
Bachelor's degree in a safety or environmental related field.
4+ years of experience with OSHA and EPA regulations.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and training skills.
Ability to interact with leadership teams and regulatory agencies.
Preferred Skills:
Laboratory setting experience and familiarity with chemical inventories.
OSHA 30 certification.
CPR/AED/First Aid/BBP certification.
