Customer Service Representative- Intake Specialist
Starting Pay: 14.70 per hour
Division & Department Location: Animal Management & Welfare
Employment Type Hours/Days: Full Time
Winter hours: Tuesday-Saturday (9:00am-6:00pm) Subject to after-hours work.

Job Description:
This position provides citizens with information and resources to help reduce numbers of animals in the shelter. Duties include excellent customer service by providing the public with accurate information regarding Animal Management & Welfare policies, programs and procedures. Produces a schedule for the Managed Intake Program. Conducting intake of animals brought to the facility by assigning case numbers, checking for microchips and tags, identifying, weighing, vaccinating, preparing a collar and assigning a kennel; processing and collecting fees for sterilization option, surrendered and reclaimed animals; maintaining and enforcing biosecurity procedures; conducting animal inventories and conducting follow up calls for animals with microchips.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provides high levels of customer service by phone, email and in person by responding to each customer's needs in a prompt, courteous and professional manner.
- Must clean and disinfect all areas of the office, clean and disinfect animal traps/kennels, respond to emails from citizens, stock intake area of all supplies needed.
- Staffs the front desk of the Animal Shelter.
- Conducts intake for animals brought to the Shelter by assessing the general health and temperament of the animal. Advising supervisor of ill or injured animals, assigning a case number, recording vital statistics, compiling and completing all necessary data required on intake data form and assigning the animal to a kennel or other enclosure.
- Attempts to locate owners of lost or abandoned animals by checking for collars, tags and/or microchips.
- Processes adoptions, sterilization option, surrendered/reclaimed animals, as well as spay-a mama program participants by completing the appropriate paperwork and collecting the associated fees.
- Assist citizens with animal adoptions, including counseling adopters, facilitating meet-and-greets, and preparing and completing adoption paperwork.
- Assist with bathing and preparing animals for adoption as needed.
- Assist with behavioral assessment groups, rescue coordination, and animal transport when needed.
- Maintains sanitary conditions in and around the front desk, as well as, following appropriate biosecurity procedures when dealing with animals.
- Updates the Website with current information regarding the animals at the Shelter.
- Administers shots (booster and rabies vaccines) and other medications to animals as directed.
- Microchip animals and processes microchip data.
- Processes donations made to the shelter.
- Assists, as needed, with surgery pickups and questions about surgery incision.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of animal shelter procedures and regulations.
- Knowledge of safety, sanitation and humane environmental conditions of animals and animal shelters.
- Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to safely handle animals, including those with unknown health and temperament.
- Ability to safely operate a staff or pole, ropes, nets and cameras.
- Skill in using standard office equipment such as copiers, cash register, multi-line phone systems, computers and related software applications for data entry, word process and accounting purposes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skill.
Required Qualifications
- Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Six months of experience working with animals.
- Must have or be able to obtain pre-exposure rabies vaccinations within six (6) months of hire.
