This position is with the City of Portland, specifically within the Public Works Business Service Area. The Digital Archivist position involves managing a large volume of digitized and non-digitized historical records. The historical records to which the student will be exposed include legal and financial documents, environmental studies, maps, and other historical references.
The digital records must be optimized, which means that metadata must be embedded into them, naming conventions must be applied, and they must be reconciled with the inventory matrix. Non-digital records are in paper format and need to be scanned. Non-digital records vary in size, and they will need to be scanned orderly and carefully. Once non-digital records have been scanned, they will be optimized like digital records: naming convention, metadata, etc.
These records are confidential and must remain on city premises; therefore, the scanning duties must be done is in-person. There will be opportunities to work remotely (negotiable and available upon demonstrating satisfactory non-supervisory performance).
No experience in records management is required. Training will be provided for on-site and remote work.
Training on software applications, editing tools, and scanning equipment will be provided.

Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week. Monday to Friday. A minimum of 8 hours per week and no less than 4 hours per day. Schedule is flexible/negotiable and available upon demonstrating satisfactory non-supervisory performance.
Location: This internship is with the City of Portland. The location is at the Portland Building, and the address is 1120 SW 5th Ave, Portland, OR 97204. The Portland Building is easily accessible by public transportation.
Note: Student may not earn more than $2,000 total in this position, which equates to 118 hours worked between Fall and Spring semester.
