This is a Community Service Work Study student employment position. Applicants must have Federal Work Study funds in their Financial Aid package.

St. John's Swapnplay is a 4,000 square foot play space that engages children in diverse, interactive activities while providing access to shared resources and opportunities for parents and caregivers to connect. From our inception in 2009 we have worked with our partners and parent volunteers to build an affordable, vibrant, inviting, and safe play space with lots of activities to build cognitive and social skills as well as cultivating imagination, creativity and self-discovery.

The Playspace Program Assistant will assist the Program Director, staff and Board Members in creating and implementing projects for the playspace, as well as supporting the play space and its members. Reports on-site to Executive Director, Jesse Miller, and on-campus to Moreau Center Program Manager.

Priority given to returning CSWS Program Assistants

Core Duties

  • General administrative tasks
  • Coordinate and host activities for members
  • Contact Community Partners to provide activities
  • Organize and facilitate activities for children
  • Other relevant tasks as assigned
  • Address where work will take place: 7535 N Chicago St., Portland, OR 97203

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have Federal Work Study Funds in Financial Aid package (contact finaid@up.edu with questions)

  • Students must be comfortable with physical work and working with/around children.

  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of social media/Google platforms to promote events.

  • Availability during business hours:

  • Monday - Saturday: 8:00am to 8:00pm

  • Ability to commute to St. Johns neighborhood

Preferred Qualifications

  • We are seeking energetic students interested in non-profits serving families, early childhood development, community mobilization, social sciences, education and/or program planning.
  • Ability to speak a second language

Physical Requirements

  • Must be comfortable with physical work and working with/around children.
