Job Summary

Provides quality care and meets customer expectations by utilizing advanced technical skills in CT imaging.

Responsibilities

  • Follow ALARA principles and scans patients with appropriate exposure and minimal repeatability.
  • Always wears radiation badges to track personal exposure.
  • Utilizes bismuth or lead shielding per established protocols.
  • Monitors CTDI Volume to ensure appropriate dose.
  • Properly identifies patients by name, DOB, and introduces themselves to the patient by first name.
  • Reviews prescription for accuracy and completeness, explains procedure, answers questions, and completes initial history form.
  • Obtains required bloodwork for GFR clearance and diabetic medication clearance for applicable patients.
  • Verifies pregnancy status in appropriate patient population and obtains waiver as needed.
  • Dispenses oral contrast to patients appropriately and gives clear instructions.
  • Reviews informed consent prior to performing venipuncture for contrast and utilizes aseptic technique when starting heplocks.
  • Operates power injectors following manufacturer guidelines and selects the appropriate injection protocol for the specific exam.
  • Monitors injection of contrast, recognizes infiltrations promptly, and communicates with the patient throughout the exam.
  • Reviews prescription and protocol for appropriateness based on clinical information provided.
  • Positions patients correctly for optimal imaging.
  • Correct selection and proficiency in scanning established CT protocols.
  • Covers appropriate anatomy and utilizes proper scan parameters.

Respecting Patient Needs

  • Respects scheduled appointment times and communicates delays to reception staff and/or patients directly, including wait times for Walk-ins.
  • Reviews charge entry and notifies appropriate administrative staff with necessary changes.
  • Completes charge sheet accurately, ensuring the CPT-4 code matches the exam performed.
  • Starts and completes examination in ADS workflow and records required information on log sheets.

Evaluating CT Images

  • Evaluates CT images for technical quality and provides concise, relevant history to the Radiologist for interpretation.
  • Performs required post-processing and/or transfers appropriate images to dedicated workstations.
  • Ensures prior exams and reports are available for comparison.
  • Scans accompanying paperwork, annotates contrast volume, and verifies images in PACS.

Recognizing Patient Psychological Needs

  • Able to recognize specific psychological needs, such as claustrophobia, anxiety, and/or physical needs of patients and determine when further assistance is needed.
  • Promptly responds to contrast reactions and/or other situations that require a timely response.
  • Documents relevant information on adverse reaction and incident forms.
  • Able to locate and use all necessary emergency equipment, code cart, oxygen, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, etc.

Education

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program.
  • Credentials: CT State license, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, BLS.
