Job Description
Operates Computed Tomography (CT) equipment. Prepares patients for exam, obtains required images for Physician to make a diagnosis. Assists in expediting patient flow and presents images for physicians diagnosis.
Job Responsibility
- Prepares patient for examination. • Explains procedure in easy-to-understand terms based on professional knowledge to relieve patient of pre-testing anxiety. • Sets up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion. • Ensures consent form for intravenous (IV) contrast materials is obtained. 2. Performs CT procedures including, but not limited to, abdominal, thoracic, neurological, extremities, sub-periosteal implant planning, radiation therapy treatment planning, biopsies, etc. • Prepares patient for exam by placing patient on exam table and positioning within gantry. • Enters patient data and other pertinent information into system. • Calculates number of scans to be obtained based on patient size and operates CT equipment, ensuring required images are obtained, as ordered by Radiologist. • Communicates with Radiologist to review and determine if additional scans are required. • Transmits cases to on-call Radiologist using Tele-Radiology system. • Operates equipment for transfer of computed images to film, archival of disc memory to optical disk, and/or picture archiving and communication system (PACS). 3. Administers intravenous (IV) and oral contrast agents per Radiologist order. • Verifies there are no contraindications to administration of IV contrast agent. • Calculates contrast dose based on patient's weight. • Performs venipuncture of appropriate gauge necessary for examination. • Explains, in layman's terms, administration of IV contrast and completes IV Contrast Information Sheet with information provided by patient, family member or health care proxy. • Utilizes appropriate flush technique for an existing IV line. • Utilizes power injector to administer IV contrast. • Recognizes and assists in the treatment contrast agent reactions and/or IV extravasations. 4. Job Qualification
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program, required. • New York State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, required. • New York State Certification in IV Contrast Administration required within six (6) months of entry date into position. • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Registered Technologist (R.T.(R)(ARRT)), required. • ARRT registration in Computed Tomography (R.T.(R)(CT)(ARRT)), required within eighteen (18) months of entry date into position. • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, required. • Previous experience as a Radiologic Technologist, required. Previous CT experience, preferred.
