This role is responsible for performing high-quality CT examinations with a focus on early detection, patient education, and a compassionate screening experience.

Responsibilities
  • Perform low-dose CT lung screening exams in accordance with established protocols, ALARA principles, and regulatory standards.
  • Verify orders and screening eligibility criteria (e.g., age, smoking history, risk factors) and collaborate with referring providers to clarify indications when needed.
  • Prepare and position patients for CT exams, ensuring correct body alignment, immobilization, and breath-hold instructions to optimize image quality.
  • Educate patients about the lung cancer screening process, risks, benefits, and post-exam expectations in clear, supportive language.
  • Monitor patients during procedures, recognize and respond to any signs of distress or adverse reactions, and escalate to the provider or emergency services when necessary.
  • Operate CT equipment safely and efficiently, selecting appropriate scan parameters and protocols; troubleshoot minor equipment issues and escalate service needs.
  • Assess images for diagnostic quality and completeness before releasing the patient; ensure timely transfer of images to PACS for radiologist interpretation.
  • Document exams accurately in the EMR and imaging systems, including screening eligibility, smoking history, dose parameters, and any incident reports.
  • Coordinate with clinical staff, front desk, and referring physicians to support smooth scheduling, patient flow, and timely communication of results and follow-up recommendations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant imaging environment, including infection prevention, contrast media storage (if used), and radiation safety practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to lung cancer screening metrics, image quality, radiation dose monitoring, and patient satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Current ARRT (R) certification; ARRT (CT) required or obtained within a specified time frame (e.g., 12 months of hire).
  • Valid New York State radiologic technologist license.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of CT experience; prior experience with low-dose lung cancer screening preferred but not required.
Skills and competencies
  • Strong knowledge of CT imaging principles, cross-sectional anatomy, and radiation safety (including low-dose techniques).
  • Excellent patient communication skills, with the ability to educate and reassure high-risk patients (e.g., long-term smokers, patients with anxiety).
  • Detail-oriented with strong critical thinking skills to follow protocols, identify discrepancies, and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced outpatient environment, managing a schedule while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, PAs, MAs, and administrative staff.
  • Proficiency with PACS, EMR systems, and basic computer skills.
Compensation: $32.00 - $45.00 per hour
