Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Director or Diagnostic Imaging, the CT Tech is responsible for scanning and producing a variety of computerized tomography examinations for physician interpretation and diagnosis of injury and/or disease for all patient ages. The CT Tech assists the Radiologist with all diagnostic and interventional procedures. The CT Tech delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to radiation standards and guidelines set forth by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service. The CT Tech performs related clerical and service duties and assists with other departments as needed.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Obtains and records appropriate patient clinical information and/or history; verifies physician orders and reviews the results of relevant laboratory tests; makes a psychological and physical assessment of each patient, making adjustments in the standard imaging procedures and techniques to accommodate patient size, age, or condition, according to protocol.

  2. Assists, transfers, and positions patients as needed, assuring their modesty and physical safety. Selects and/or inputs appropriate protocol at Radiologist discretion for given patient symptoms; and monitors computer function during performance of the examination.

  3. Prepares oral and intravenous contrast media for administration to patients as ordered. Administers and/or injects sufficient IV and/or oral contrast media to produce quality images. Processes images. Accurately documents work in HIS/RIS/PACS systems.

  4. Checks operation of equipment; sees that daily phantom Q.A. is completed. Maintains cleanliness of tables and equipment to prevent cross contamination of contagious diseases, keeps rooms well stocked with linen and necessary supplies.

  5. Keeps up to date with changes in the field of computed tomography and/or radiologic technology by inservice study, attending courses or seminars as necessary and/or recommended, or participating in professional organizations.

  6. Assists in other modalities as needed.

Position Qualifications

License/Certification/Education

  1. ARRT certification in Radiology is required.

  2. RTR licensure in Commonwealth Massachusetts is required.

  3. CT modality requires a Sub-specialty (CT) certification within 1 year of employment.

  4. BLS certification is required.

  5. Maintaining all area specific CEUs for ARRT, DPH according to regulation is required.

Preferred

  1. Experience in CT

Unless certification, licensure, or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
