Overview:

Provide diagnostic imaging services according to accepted standards and protocols and assure patient safety during procedures

Responsibilities:

General Diagnostic Procedures:

  • Performs all diagnostic procedures following policies and procedures established by the department and proper protocol.
  • Adjusts patient care based on age specific needs
  • Uses all equipment properly and in a manner that minimizes hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
  • Determines most suitable position and shields patient for optimum imaging, protocol, and patient comfort. Follows ALARA principle (staff and patient shielding).
  • Explains procedures and responds to questions appropriately.
  • Scans paperwork into the PAC’s System and have proper paperwork filled out (IV contrast paperwork).
  • Maintains working knowledge of the PAC’s System.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of CD Burning.
  • Completes patient charges for each exam in a timely manner.
  • Transports patients to and from the department.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly environment and associated checklist.

Special Diagnostic Testing:

  • Demonstrates competency in performing all procedures and use of the equipment for CAT Scans as assigned.
  • Initiates a peripheral IV for patients requiring designated diagnostic testing within the radiology dept in accordance with Hospital policy and as assigned after completion of education and competence demonstration.
  • Reviews and follows the CT protocol assigned by the Radiologist.
  • Keep dose as low as possible to achieve a diagnostic exam.
  • Use the appropriate protocols for adults and pediatric.

Administrative:

  • Uses computer to access reports.
  • Follows protocols for releasing of images.
  • Assists with administrative responsibilities of the department to include scheduling appointments, answering the phone, etc.
  • Performs all quality controls procedures daily as assigned and maintains appropriate logs.
  • Orders radiology supplies as directed.
  • Participates in annual surveys and inspections.
  • Able to teach/aid students.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of radiology technology.
  • Registered/licensed with American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent in education and experience.
  • 0-1 year radiology experience
  • Hospital experience preferred
