JOB SUMMARY

The Metals Manufacturing Teacher is the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom. The teacher instructs professional technical education classes in advanced manufacturing and supervises student activities related to the above so that students develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes related to employment in the manufacturing occupations. Student achievement and growth are primarily dependent on the work and efforts of the classroom teacher. The position is demanding, varied and complex. The teacher must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain NC Teaching Certificate valid for the assignment. Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate positively with students, teachers, administrators, employers, parents, and the community.
  • Demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for employment in the manufacturing trades.
  • Strong knowledge of, and ability to teach CNC machining, welding, milling, etc.
  • Provide supportive and effective classroom management for students.
  • Provide a safe and orderly environment for students.
  • Plan effective and appropriate daily lessons and unit plans incorporating industry as well as SHS school wide initiatives (i.e. reading and writing across the curriculum).
  • Develop, implement and maintain a system to track and maintain tools and equipment (loss prevention and continued maintenance).
  • Establish and maintain a robust and energetic advisory committee and meet with them no less than once per term.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • Collaborate with other CTE instructors.
  • Attend regional, state and national student competitions.
  • Be a reflective practitioner committed to continuous improvement.
  • Attend work regularly.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • At least 5 years of manufacturing experience
  • Knowledge of safety, machine processes, communications, and career preparation as it relates to the manufacturing environment.
  • Machining and welding experience

Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting;

keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with adolescent students and public.

  • Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff or members of the community. Ability to draft simple correspondence and some routine reports. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weigh measurement, volume and distance.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Proficiency in the usage of database software, internet software, e-mail and word processing software. Ability to proficiently use the following programs strongly preferred: MS Word, Outlook, and Excel. Ability to type accurately and proficiently.
  • Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must be eligible to obtain a valid NC Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement and authorization for the assignment. Licenses as determined by the District.
