About the positionThis is a full-time, exempt role with CT Mechanical, a division of Comfort Temp Company. You can be based in Gainesville, Jacksonville, Orlando, or Tampa, Florida. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. You'll report to the Estimating Manager and work closely with operations leadership. Why this role mattersEvery successful project at CT Mechanical starts with a number someone got right. As a Mechanical Estimator, you'll turn plans and specs into accurate, competitive bids for commercial HVAC, plumbing, and piping work across Florida, and you'll hand operations a scope they can actually build. CT Mechanical is the commercial division of Comfort Temp, a Florida contractor founded in 1985. We self-perform HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal work out of Gainesville, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa. Our estimating team decides which opportunities we pursue, protects our margins, and sets up project managers and field crews to win on the job, not just on bid day. What you'll doBuild the bid. You'll review plans, specs, addenda, schedules, and bid documents to understand the full mechanical scope. From there you'll perform quantity takeoffs and build detailed estimates covering HVAC, plumbing, piping, equipment, materials, labor, and subcontracted work. Before anything goes out, you'll flag scope gaps, conflicts, exclusions, alternates, allowances, and risks, then prepare bid forms, cost summaries, and review materials for leadership. You'll keep every estimate file, quote, and assumption organized so anyone can follow your work. Get the right pricing. You'll solicit quotes from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors, then compare and qualify them to confirm what's covered, what's excluded, and whether they match the documents. You'll keep trade partners informed of deadlines, clarifications, and addenda, and build relationships that make the next bid easier. Set the project up to succeed. You'll work alongside estimating leadership, project managers, and field leaders on bid strategy, estimate reviews, and turnover meetings. You'll explain your assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, and risks clearly so the handoff is clean. You'll also support change order pricing, budget reviews, value engineering, and post-bid follow-up, and help improve our templates, tracking tools, and estimating workflows. What you bringYou can read and interpret commercial construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents, and you understand how commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, and equipment come together in the field, including construction sequencing. You can build a detailed estimate, compare pricing, judge whether a quote truly covers the scope, and hit a firm bid deadline. You're strong in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and comfortable in Adobe Acrobat or a similar PDF review tool. You write and speak clearly enough to explain scope, assumptions, and risk to anyone on the team. Most of all, you're detail-oriented and you check your work the same way every time. You can juggle several bids and deadlines at once, work independently, and still stay in step with estimating, operations, and project teams. Bonus pointsIt's a plus if you have three or more years estimating mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, piping, or commercial construction work. Hands-on time in the field, in project coordination or management, or in a mechanical trade will serve you well here. Experience with QuoteSoft, Accubid, or a similar takeoff platform helps, as does estimating larger buildings in healthcare, education, industrial, municipal, retail, or office settings. What success looks likeYour estimates are accurate, complete, organized, and on time. You've read every plan, spec, and addendum before a bid goes out, and every vendor and subcontractor quote behind it is compared, qualified, and documented. Leadership knows your assumptions, exclusions, and risks without having to dig for them. Project managers trust your handoff because the scope is clear. And over time, you get faster and more consistent without losing your eye for detail. How we workFour core values guide how we treat customers, teammates, trade partners, and our communities: Do what you say. Do what it takes. Walk with purpose. Do the right thing. We're looking for someone who owns their work, communicates clearly, and follows through. To us, a strong estimate is more than a number. It's the foundation of a successful project. BenefitsEligible employees receive medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, paid holidays and vacation, and life and disability coverage. You'll also have room to grow, with career development and advancement opportunities in a supportive, collaborative workplace. Specific eligibility and any role-related tools or equipment will be confirmed during the hiring process. |
