About Us: Since 2014, CT Mechanical has built its reputation one commercial project at a time, delivering mechanical systems our customers can count on. Everything we do is guided by four core values: Do what it takes, Do what you say, Do it with purpose, and Do the right things. Our mission is simple: keep our customers comfortable and give them peace of mind with every job we complete. Job Summary: CT Mechanical is seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Technician who can own a project from the first stage of rough-in all the way through start-up and controls troubleshooting. This is a specialized, full-lifecycle role for a technician who understands how a commercial mechanical system comes together – from laying out and running refrigerant and condensate piping, to setting and wiring equipment, to energizing systems, verifying sequences of operation, and resolving controls issues before turnover. You will work on new construction and renovation projects across larger commercial environments, partnering closely with our project managers, installation crews, electricians, controls contractors, and general contractors. If you take pride in being the technician who gets the system built right and running right – and you thrive in a fast-paced commercial setting – this is the place for you. Apply today! Role and Responsibilities: Rough-In & Installation - Review mechanical plans, submittals, and equipment schedules to lay out and coordinate rough-in with other trades.
- Set and install commercial HVAC equipment, including packaged rooftop units, split systems, VRF/VRV systems, ductless systems, heat pumps, DOAS/ERV units, and exhaust fans.
- Run, solder, and braze copper refrigerant piping using proper nitrogen purge practices; install PVC condensate drains, secondary drain pans, and float safeties.
- Pressure test, evacuate, and verify system tightness prior to start-up.
- Install and terminate low-voltage control wiring, thermostats, and sensors, and coordinate line-voltage connections with the electrical contractor.
Start-Up & Commissioning - Perform manufacturer start-up procedures on new commercial equipment and complete all start-up reports and checklists.
- Charge refrigerant systems by weight, superheat, and subcooling to manufacturer specifications; handle refrigerant recovery and reclaim in compliance with EPA regulations.
- Verify and document airflow, static pressure, temperatures, voltage, and amperage, and make adjustments to ensure reliable indoor comfort.
- Set up and program thermostats, unit controllers, economizers, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Support test and balance (TAB) contractors and commissioning agents during functional performance testing, and close out punch-list items.
Controls & Troubleshooting - Read and interpret sequences of operation, controls drawings, and wiring diagrams.
- Troubleshoot low- and line-voltage controls, including relays, contactors, control boards, sensors, and safety circuits.
- Diagnose and correct communication issues on VRF and building controls networks; work with BAS/DDC front ends to verify points and resolve alarms.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues and make repairs to bring systems online ahead of turnover.
- Respond to warranty calls on newly installed systems and provide clear findings to the project team.
Jobsite & Professional - Maintain accurate documentation, including start-up sheets, service tickets, as-built notes, and photos.
- Communicate progress, issues, and schedule impacts to project managers, superintendents, and general contractors.
- Maintain truck stock, tools, and test instruments in good working order.
- Follow all jobsite safety plans and OSHA requirements.
- Train and mentor apprentices and helpers on installation and start-up best practices.
Requirements & Qualifications: - Minimum 5 years of commercial HVAC installation and/or service experience, including hands-on equipment start-up.
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (required).
- Proficiency in reading and comprehending mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings, as well as wiring diagrams.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and confident use of multimeters, manifolds/digital gauges, and other diagnostic instruments.
- Proficient in brazing and soldering copper piping.
- Working knowledge of commercial packaged units, split systems, and VRF systems.
- Strong knowledge of safety precautions associated with commercial HVAC work.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Attention to detail, sound professional judgment, and a commitment to ethics and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills with customers, coworkers, and other trades.
- Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds, work from ladders, lifts, and rooftops, and maneuver in tight spaces and varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications: - 10 years of experience in the commercial HVAC field.
