Position Summary
A nationally recognized engineering and environmental consulting firm is seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the next evolution of its technology strategy and digital transformation initiatives.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this executive will oversee the organization's technology strategy across IT, cyber security, compliance and risk management, software development, data solutions, AI, and digital product commercialization. While the company has an established internal IT organization, this role is focused on building upon that foundation by modernizing technology capabilities, developing client-facing digital solutions, and creating new technology-enabled revenue opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the company's enterprise technology strategy in alignment with long-term business growth objectives
- Lead digital transformation initiatives across IT, software development, AI, data solutions, and emerging technologies
- Identify, develop, and commercialize software products, AI-powered solutions, data platforms, and digital services that create new revenue streams
- Build technology roadmaps, business cases, and investment strategies that balance innovation with practical execution
- Evaluate organizational needs and define the structure, talent, and resources required to scale future technology initiatives
- Partner closely with executive leadership to align technology investments with corporate strategy and operational priorities
- Oversee technology governance, cloud strategy, cybersecurity, enterprise systems, and software development initiatives
- Build and mentor high-performing software, engineering, product, data, and technology teams
- Develop strategic partnerships with technology vendors, software providers, AI partners, and external consultants
- Represent the organization with clients, industry organizations, conferences, and strategic partners while helping position the firm as a technology and innovation leader
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Business, or a related field required (Master's degree preferred)
- 15+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, including executive-level strategy responsibility
- Proven success leading digital transformation and technology modernization initiatives
- Experience building, scaling, or commercializing software products, SaaS offerings, or technology-enabled business services
- Strong understanding of software product development, cloud technologies, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, and modern software development practices
- Demonstrated success aligning technology strategy with business growth and commercial objectives
- Experience building and leading multidisciplinary engineering, software, product, IT, or data organizations
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex technology concepts for executive leadership, boards, clients, and non-technical stakeholders
- Collaborative leadership style with a willingness to operate strategically while remaining actively engaged in execution
Preferred Backgrounds
- Engineering consulting, environmental consulting, architecture, engineering, construction (AEC), infrastructure, or professional services
- Software product commercialization, SaaS, or technology-enabled services
- AI, machine learning, digital twins, data analytics, geospatial technology, or modeling platforms
- Experience building technology organizations within non-software-first businesses
- Experience with Agile, DevOps, AI, data platforms, or emerging technology initiatives
- Product strategy, software licensing, intellectual property, or technology commercialization
- Experience working with executive leadership, boards, investors, and external technology partners
