    Summary:

    • To perform CT procedures on inpatients, outpatients and emergency room patients, utilizing clinical skills, knowledge and competencies of the CAT scan technologist position.

    Responsibilities:

    • A. Clinical Competencies: Maintains clinical competency in the CAT Scan Technologist position requirement 1. Administer IV contrast within the scope of practice for the state of Pennsylvania and the policies of Doylestown Hospital. 2. Ability to perform venipuncture for IV access using aseptic technique 3. Follow established protocols for all CT procedures. 4. Ensure exams are completed and patient is discharged in a safe and timely manner. 5. Manipulate patient data on computer. Complete filming, achieving and processing in a timely manner. Deliver completed paperwork to the radiologist for interpretation. 6. Perform start-up and shutdown procedures on equipment in addition to any required QC. 7. Ability to perform therapeutic and interventional procedures B. Patient Care: Provide patient care for all of our customers by performing CT procedures as prescribed by an ordering provider. 1. Accurately identify the patient, utilizing two forms of ID. 2. Verify physician's order 3. Obtain patients medical history, lab results and allergies. 4. Administer preps, insert IV lines following safety and regulatory guidelines, and inject contrast agents if indicated. 5. Provide information and explanation of procedure, before the start of the exam. Provide any post procedure instructions if indicated. C. Patient documentation and Department Records: Compile and maintain patient records and schedules. 1. Utilize hospital computer applications to enter, view and process patient's exam data and charges associated with their procedure. 2. Ability to send to Synapse PAC's, Vision and Dicom transfers 3. Maintain and update all records required by licensing and government agencies D. Technical Skills / Knowledge: Check physician's order and verify what procedure will best help diagnosis the patient. 1. Check the accuracy of provider order 2. Utilizing the CT protocol manual developed by the Radiologist and determine the best study for the patient. 3. Contact the ordering provider if there are any discrepancies in the order or the need for additional information. 4. The ability to differentiate between normal and abnormal anatomy. Bring all abnormal studies to the attention of the Radiologist 5. Demonstrate appropriate positioning and exposure technique 6. Ability to perform QC as required 7. Principles of ALARA and radiation safety
