About the Opportunity

Kalamazoo Valley is seeking a full-time instructor for our collaborative and innovative culinary programs focused on health, food safety and environmental sustainability. Based at our state-of-the art culinary school in Kalamazoo, duties will include primarily teaching a variety of day and possible evening courses and occasional weekend hours for special community events at on- and off-campus locations.

The Culinary Instructor will assist in curriculum development and participate in or lead departmental and college activities that support initiatives related to enrollment management, retention, student engagement and student success.

The successful candidate will teach courses focused on culinary operations, management and service, including a variety of styles of service practiced in real-time service environments (such as in the Food Service Management course). The position also includes teaching assignments in other areas of our curriculum dependent on the expertise of the candidate (options may include courses in food science, restaurant culinary production, food safety, food preservation, food business and sustainable food systems). Candidates should be familiar with a variety of instructional strategies, possess knowledge of different student learning styles and have an understanding of the community college philosophy.

This position is anticipated to start Fall 2026.

Minimum Qualifications:

Comprehensive food service knowledge and educational credentials required. This may take the form of a completed bachelors or masters degree in food service management, hospitality management, food marketing or a related field. Alternatively, an associate degree in culinary arts that includes extensive coursework in service components along with current certification from the American Culinary Federation (ACF) as a CCA Certified Culinary Administrator, CCC Certified Chef de Cuisine, CEC Certified Executive Chef or CCE Certified Culinary Educator (or equivalent) is acceptable.

Other Requirements Include:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Current ServSafe Manager and ServSafe Alcohol certification or ability to obtain within first 6 months of employment.
  • Service expert experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
