While many of our students are first-generation college educated and from rural areas in upstate New York, we are excited by the influx of students from downstate and out of state who can live in our 400-bed residence hall.

Major Responsibilities

SUNY Adirondack is actively recruiting for a full-time member for the Culinary Arts program. The Culinary Arts program offers a Culinary Arts AAS degree, Culinary and Baking Arts AOS degree, and Culinary Certificate. In this position, the candidate will be teaching a curriculum that is in line with the standards of Seasoned, a student-run restaurant at 14 Hudson in downtown Glens Falls, and the Culinary Arts faculty. Successful candidates will have expertise in a range of areas that include but not limited to Basic Food Preparation, Baking Techniques, Sauce Theory, Sanitation, Purchasing, Foodservice Mathematics and Front-of-House (FOH) operations. Ideal candidates have several years of experience working in restaurants. Expected start date of Fall 2026.

  • Create comprehensive course syllabi aligned with (SUNY standards) and institutional criteria.
  • Develop actionable academic assignments and industry-relevant curriculum materials.
  • Design and implement grading rubrics to evaluate student performance objectively.
  • Conduct hands-on lab evaluations assessing foundational and advanced techniques.
  • Accurately monitor class attendance and maintain detailed academic records.
  • Enforce professional industry standards regarding kitchen sanitation, hygiene, and uniform compliance.
  • Plan and coordinate food procurement and physical supply logistics for all lab needs well in advance.
  • Manage reservation systems and digital ticketing platforms for guest dinners, student-run restaurant services, or special culinary showcases.
  • Assist with community events, culinary pop-ups, and campus functions to promote the program and engage external stakeholders.
  • Oversee front-of-house operations during public services to train students in beverage management and standard guest hospitality workflows.

Required Skills

  • Active ServSafe Manager Certification required
  • Proven background in commercial kitchen management
  • Higher education teaching experience preferred
  • Point of sale and reservation management experience preferred
  • Strong mastery of culinary and baking techniques

Educational Requirements

  • A Masters degree is preferred; a bachelors and/or associates in culinary arts (or related field) may qualify for those with 10+ years of progressive professional culinary industry experience.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Routinely stand and walk for extended periods during kitchen lab sessions. Safely life, carry and move kitchen inventory or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Salary

Placement on salary scale reflects individual degrees/experience. The minimum starting salary is $52,489 and is complemented by a generous benefits package. Summer teaching and overload are additional.
