Position Title: Cultural Arts TeacherReports to: Chief Executive Officer and Principal Term: Ten (10) month position, salaried POSITION SUMMARY:Cultural Arts Teachers are responsible for providing direct instruction to all scholars. Cultural Arts Teachers are responsible for the development of lesson plans and curriculum materials used to support the educational development of children. The teacher is responsible for demonstrating strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, as well as good organizational ability. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essentialduty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,skill, and/or ability required. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIESWork with students in small groups and large groupsCollaborates daily in regards to student progressActs as a resource person to teachers, scholars and parentsConsults with school administrators, parents and other interested parties in the development and implementation of individual scholar plansAttend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competenceMaintain accurate recordsIdentifying the educational needs of scholars and altering instruction to meet student needsAnalyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problemsTeach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcementEmploy strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memoryMeet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their childrenAdminister standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpret results to determine students' strengths and areas of need**Other duties as assigned by CEO or Principal** QUALIFICATIONS:Education Certification preferredA minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and preferably a Master's Degree in the human services fieldAbility and willingness to work an extended scheduleProven ability to work well with children, adults and parentsDemonstrated ability to analyze raw data and develop goals for studentsExperience working with a diverse population including low to moderate-income families.Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties requiredKNOWLEDGE:The community served by the schoolModification and Accommodation ImplementationConflict resolution skillsSchool policies and proceduresState and Federal rules and regulationsABILITIES:Demonstrate an understanding, patient and receptive attitude toward scholarsEstablish and accurately maintain a variety of files and record keeping systemsCommunicate effectively orally and in writingUnderstand and carry out oral and written instructionsPerform a variety of clerical functionsDeal with sensitive material in a confidential mannerEstablish and maintain co-operative relationships with those contacted during the performance of required duties, including school personnel, students, parents and the communityMaintain regular attendanceAbility to communicate information and ideas in writing.Teach personal development skills such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacyDevelop and implement strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of handicapping conditionsAbility to prepare lesson plans and organize a meaningful instructional programModify the general education curriculum for special-needs students, based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologiesAbility to evaluate critically the educational achievements of students and to give assignments according to their interests and abilityDemonstrate the ability to exercise patience, caring and concern in new and sometimes stressful situations
