    Curatorial Assistant (Temporary, Full-Time)

    Prints & Drawings

    Reporting to the Curator of the Robert Gore Rifkind Center for German Expressionist Studies and working closely with the Curator and Department Head of the Prints and Drawings Department, the Curatorial Assistant will support the coordination and implementation of an exhibition exploring the intellectual and artistic exchanges among Germany, Japan, and China during the first third of the 20th century, scheduled to open in May 2027. The Curatorial Assistant may also provide support for additional exhibition projects as needed. This is a term-limited position through April 15, 2027.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manages the exhibition checklist and storyboards to track exhibition developments and artwork information

    • Corresponds with scholars and lenders to confirm object details and display requirements

    • Schedules appointments with artists, scholars, and research institutions

    • Compiles documents and drafts texts for curators, lenders, funders, and other stakeholders

    • Contributes original research and writing to be presented in various contexts, including exhibition labels, didactics, and materials required for implementation as well as LACMA blog, public programs, etc.

    • Develops interpretive programming with collateral departments in the museum, including public and educational programs and digital media

    • Coordinates with other museum departments such as registration, publications, conservation, and exhibition design to facilitate exhibition and publications planning.

    • Provides assistance and access to guests and colleagues once the exhibition is open

    Benefits:

    • The expected hourly rate for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $24.00, subject to change, and the position is eligible for LACMA's comprehensive benefits package.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Art History, Design History, Visual Studies, or a related field

    • Minimum of one year of administrative and/or research experience, preferably in a museum or cultural institution.

    • Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.

    • Experience using Google Workspace; familiarity with TMS or comparable museum collection software is a plus.

    • Fluency or working knowledge of Japanese and/or German is preferred.
