Custodial/Maintenance/Buildings and Grounds

Purpose of Position:

Provide support for building staff to maintain the normal and efficient operations of the schools.

Direct Supervisor:

Business Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

General Support

Perform basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry repairs.

Maintain/landscape district grounds including athletic fields.

Maintain and repair district equipment.

Drive a school owned vehicle including snow removal equipment.

Clean and straighten rooms and areas.

Sanitize restrooms.

Dispose of garbage and recycle.

Report mechanical deficiencies and safety issues.

Restock all dispensing devices.

Remove snow/ice and apply salt.

Operate various department equipment.

Report inappropriate behavior by building users.

Move and/or set-up furniture and equipment.

Receive deliveries, check-in orders.

Secure and unsecure building.

Direct building users as necessary.

Fix and/or replace simple room necessities (light bulbs, ceiling tiles, blinds, pencil sharpeners, dispensers, etc.).

Serve on committees as assigned.

Other duties as assigned by Director of Buildings and Grounds or designee.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

High school graduate and vocational/college training or related training.

Organizational and problem solving skills.

Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.

Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment.

Maintain a valid driver's license.

Minimum Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Abilities to operate a variety of department equipment including floor scrubber, man lift, bobcat, plow truck).

Maintain current physical on file with the District when requested certifying ability to meet all job qualifications.

Ability to learn computer software programs.

Ability to successfully complete training programs.

Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods with or without back support.

Ability to perform heavy physical work, frequently lifting or moving more than 50 pounds.

CUSTODIAL/LIGHT MAINTENANCE/GROUNDS 01 2017

Ability to move throughout the buildings and grounds areas with time spent working indoors and outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions.

Ability to reach in all directions, bend/stoop and climb.

Ability to follow safety practices at all times, including proper lifting and use of cleaning solutions/equipment.

Ability to safely perform work on ladders and lifts.

Academic Ability and Interpersonal Communication

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate whole number, fractions, decimals and percent.

Ability to comprehend and interpret a variety of documents related to functions and procedures in the school environment.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow directions.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a variety of environmental situations including inside building, outside building, and confined spaces.

Effectively communicate with teachers, students, parents, administrators and members of the public both verbally and in writing.

Ability to be a team member.

Relate to students with compassion and understanding.

Adjust to changes in schedule and duties.

Ability to be flexible.

Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks.
