GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs a variety of tasks involving custodial care of county buildings.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the supervision of a custodial supervisor who assigns projects and reviews work for conformance to standards.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervision of employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification.

Typical Duties - Duties include, but are not limited to the following

Daily Operations:

  • Empty trash and recycling on multiple floors and disposing of trash and recycling in proper dumpsters.
  • Remove surface dirt and dust on horizontal surfaces at a variety of heights.
  • Remove surface dirt and debris from hard floor surfaces.
  • Vacuum carpeting and use carpet cleaners.
  • Operate and clean various equipment.
  • Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, walls, vents, trash cans, sanitary disposal boxes, and partitions.
  • Sweep and mop multiple floors.
  • Clean windows, mirrors, and glass at a variety of heights.
  • Clean walls, doors, door frames, and light switch plates.
  • Clean under office desks and behind office equipment.
  • Prepare chemicals per instructions using basic math skills to compute dilution ratios.
  • Maintain building security.
  • Maintain a clean and organized custodial closet.
  • Appropriately handle and dispose of hazardous waste.
  • Establish and maintain professional and effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, supervisors and other departments and agencies.
  • Check e-mail daily, respond to emails in a timely manner, and fill out daily work orders. Complete monthly work orders.
  • Respond to customer requests for removal of debris, cleanup of spills, etc.
  • Order and put away custodial supplies.
  • Use of ladders and stairs; and work and reach above shoulders.

Other Job Duties:

  • Understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
  • Comply with department and county policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA requirements.
  • Always carry a cell phone and ensure it's in working order.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance, and needed CJIS clearance.
  • Possess and maintains a current ODL and an acceptable driving record to be able to drive to and from campuses located within Marion County.
  • Attend various meetings and complete the required training.
  • Report any needed maintenance repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements for the Position

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Graduation from high school, or equivalent, and some experience with janitorial techniques; OR
  • Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a current drivers license in the applicants state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving record according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business.   • The finalist for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check, including finger printing; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this position.
  • This assignment is represented by a union.
  • This is a full-time position, which is eligible for overtime.
  • Typical schedule: Monday - Friday, 4:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m., with flexibility depending upon the needs of the department.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Some knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures; some knowledge of cleaning materials such as soaps, powders, waxes, and polishes; ability to understand and follow simple instructions; good physical condition, strength, and agility to perform manual tasks for extended periods; ability to work cooperatively with other employees; ability to work alone; ability to work evenings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Operates a motor vehicle; bends, stoops, squats and twists; stands and walks for long periods of time; engages in repetitive work motions such as gripping, lifting and mopping; reaches above shoulders and head; climbs ladders and stairs; cleans surfaces at a variety of heights and angles; lifts and carries equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.; pushes and pulls up to 75 lbs.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, full-time employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Student Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Questions about your student loan eligibility should be directed to your loan servicer or the US Department of Education.

VISA SPONSORSHIP

Marion County does not offer VISA sponsorship. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security's I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States.
