Job Summary

Performs strenuous custodial tasks in designated county buildings and institutional facilities. Tasks involve considerable moving and lifting of heavy objects or materials, climbing and reaching and possible working outside in the maintenance of building surroundings. Scrubs, waxes and polishes floors of rooms and corridors using electrically powered equipment; sweeps and hand mops corridors; washes walls and windows. Vacuums rugs; dusts and polishes furniture; cleans cabinets and shelves. Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms. Loads, unloads and moves furniture, material and equipment. Carries out refuse, shovels snow, sweeps parking lots and performs other manual tasks related to maintenance of buildings and grounds. Sets up chairs, platforms and other equipment for various assemblies, conferences and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development Test Certificate is required.
  • One (1) year full-time experience performing cleaning duties with various types of solutions via hand and power driven equipment in an institution or office building is required.
  • Position involves considerable standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and other types of physical exertion is required.

  • Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of institutional cleaning methods, types of cleaners to be used on various materials and surfaces.

  • Knowledge of and the ability to use brooms, mops, electric floor waxers, and other hand and power-driven cleaning and polishing equipment.

  • Ability to do strenuous work which includes but is not limited to moving and lifting furniture, equipment and refuse, operating power waxers, etc.

  • Ability to function independently in meeting high standards of cleanliness in an assigned building area.

  • Proficiency in the care of assigned tools and materials, economical use of all soaps, powders, waxes and other custodial supplies.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to learn simple repetitive tasks.

  • Ability to exercise safety and care in cleaning to avoid injuries, or breakage or destruction of property.

  • This position requires various types of physical exertion, including, but not limited to walking, standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving objects of moderate to heavy weight.

Physical Requirements

Very Heavy Work

Very Heavy work involves exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Hourly wage: $22.436/Hourly

  • This position requires successful completion of post-offer tests, which may include a background check, drug screen and medical examination.
