Job Description Summary:

This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of assigned facilities and surrounding grounds. Duties include routine custodial services, minor maintenance support, and ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards.

Job Description:

Salary Range: $32,457.00-$92,686.00

BUDGETED SALARY: $40,000.00

Essential Duties:

  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain building interiors, including floors, walls, stairwells, handrails, windows, and other surfaces.
  • Perform routine custodial tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, waxing floors, dusting, and general cleaning.
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles and dispose of waste in designated collection areas.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain restroom facilities, including toilets, urinals, sinks, hand dryers, mirrors, and related fixtures.
  • Restock restroom supplies, including paper products, soap, and other necessary items.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies to support departmental operations and special events.
  • Monitor facilities for maintenance concerns and report issues such as plumbing stoppages, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of building exteriors, entrances, walkways, and surrounding grounds by removing trash, debris, and litter.
  • Perform snow and ice removal activities, including shoveling, salting, and applying de-icing materials to ensure safe access to County facilities.
  • Assist with basic grounds maintenance activities, including weeding, trimming, and maintaining landscaped areas, lawns, and shrubs.
  • Follow established safety procedures and properly use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to employees, visitors, and members of the public.
  • Other duties as assigned

Years of Experience:
One (1) year of experience performing commercial custodial or janitorial work.

Years of Supervisory Experience:
None

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Certifications, Licensures, and Examinations:

A valid Class "C" non-commercial driver's license with no more than three (3) points. Please be advised that this position requires a valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of standard custodial methods, practices, materials, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures, including hazard communication requirements and safety signage.
  • Knowledge of proper handling, cleaning, and disposal procedures for biohazardous materials.
  • Ability to safely operate, maintain, and perform minor troubleshooting of custodial equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to provide responsive, professional, and customer-focused service.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, carrying, bending, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods.

Must comply with all Federal (OSHA), State of Maryland (MOSH), safety regulations and applicable Harford County safety policies, procedures, or manuals as required for this position.
