CUSTODIAN

Classification:  Classified 260 Day

Reports to:   Facilities Coordinator

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Custodian supports the daily appearance, cleanliness, and operational logistics of assigned LBLESD sites and partner programs. This position focuses on the execution of routine janitorial services, facility sanitation, basic grounds upkeep, and furniture setups for district events. This position works in coordination with the Facilities Maintenance Technician and Lead Facilities Technician to ensure all ESD environments remain safe, sanitary, and welcoming.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  2. Experience: Minimum of one to three (1–3) years of successful custodial, janitorial, or commercial facility cleaning experience.
  3. Operational Capabilities: Knowledge of effective commercial cleaning practices, sanitation procedures, and chemical safety protocols. Skilled in the safe operation of basic custodial equipment (upright/backpack vacuums, wet/dry vacuums, low-speed floor buffers, and pressure washers).
  4. Physical & Environmental Safety: Knowledge of basic facility safety rules, emergency exit layouts, and fire extinguisher locations. Ability to read and strictly follow basic operating manuals, product dilution ratios, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  5. Technical & Computer Skills: Ability to utilize digital facilities management software or mobile applications to receive, track, and update daily cleaning work tickets and report facility maintenance needs.
  6. Certification & Licenses: a.  First Aid Certification and Bloodborne Pathogen training required upon hire.   b.  Valid Oregon driver’s license and insurable driving record required to transport equipment and supplies between multiple ESD locations.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the LBL Board of Directors/Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

GENERAL INFORMATION

This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities.

  7. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.
  8. Maintain regular attendance at work.  Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedule
  9. Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions using tools that vibrate (power tools, lawnmower, etc.).
  10. Must be able to respond to emergencies during off hours.
  11. Must be able to stand, walk for the majority of an 8-hour day.
  12. Provide own transportation to numerous settings within a flexible work schedule that may include evenings and occasional overnight stays.
  13. Ability to lift, carry or transport up to 70 -100 pounds.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This is not necessarily an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, and duties associated with this position. The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time it’s deemed necessary.

1.       Routine Janitorial Operations: Maintain a clean, sanitary, and professional appearance of assigned facilities by dusting, vacuuming carpets, emptying trash, recycling, and compost, and transporting waste to designated disposal areas daily.

2.       Surface & Floor Maintenance: Execute comprehensive floor care across all facility settings, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and operating low-speed floor buffers safely.

3.       High-Traffic Sanitation: Clean and thoroughly disinfect restrooms, kitchens, drinking fountains, and other high-use common areas daily; maintain and restock essential paper and soap supplies.

4.       General Facility Washing: Clean, wash, and disinfect furniture, interior/exterior glass windows, whiteboards, woodwork, walls, and building fixtures to ensure an inviting learning and working environment.

5.       Facility & Grounds Maintenance: Perform minor building repairs, touch-up painting, pressure washing and execute routine groundskeeping (mowing, weeding, litter pickup, and maintaining exterior entryways).

6.       Event & Classroom Setups: Arrange, move, and set up tables, chairs, and specialized equipment for staff meetings, community events, and classroom activities; promptly restore spaces to normal arrangements after use.

7.       Supply Inventory Management: Maintain organized custodial closets and storage rooms, tracking cleaning product usage and submitting accurate supply order lists to the Facilities Coordinator or designee.

8.       Lock-Up & Facility Security: Assume responsibility for the secure opening or closing of assigned building sites, ensuring all windows/doors are locked, appropriate lights/appliances are turned off, gates are secured, and security alarms are activated.

9.       Other Duties as Assigned: Receives and completes work tickets.

SALARY AND BENEFIT INFORMATION

  • Salary and benefit information shown are based on full-time employment (1.0 FTE) based on the current school year
  • Placement on the Linn Benton Lincoln ESD Classified salary schedule will be commensurate with applicant’s qualifications, relevant training, and experience
  • Linn Benton Lincoln ESD will provide an Insurance CAP to assist with health, dental and vision insurance premiums 
  • Employer paid PERS, holidays, sick leave and personal days are also provided
  • Employer paid Life Insurance 1 x annual salary
