Vacuum cleaner, wet vacuum, kaivac machines, carpet cleaner/extractor, mops and buffer

Daily contact with staff, administration and students within a school environment.

Receives written and verbal requests from Custodial Manager, Zone Supervisor, school staff and administration for work to be done.

Some decision making in terms of work priorities. Supervisor’s approval required for most decisions

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, handle paper files, records, computer and equipment controls, talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must frequently lift up to 45 pounds and/or move up to 75 pounds and possess the strength to operate commercial cleaning equipment.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot or cold conditions and risk of electrical shock. Some work is performed outside. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
Working knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and cleaning standards. Ability to operate commercial cleaning equipment. Requires the ability to use standard English to: read, communicate, understand and follow written instructions; write simple sentences, and comprehend labeling on products. Ability to work safely and efficiently with machinery. Basic computer and keyboarding skills. Practice and understand the elements of good customer service, good communication skills, comprehension skills, and interaction with others.
Requires the ability to speak effectively and communicate in the English language. Valid VA Driver’s License. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
