Rates are for 25-26 school year and do not reflect any potential increases for the 26-27 school year

The job of "Custodian" is done for the purpose/s of maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure, ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner and directing assigned custodians as necessary.

Essential Functions:

  • Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and events.
  • Cleans school facilities (i.e. classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment, including the use of power equipment and hand tools.
  • Delivers variety of items (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of distributing the materials to the appropriate parties.
  • Informs students, other site personnel and supervisor for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities.
  • Operates and Diagnoses problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning/refrigeration/fire alarm systems for the purpose of identifying repair and replacement needs necessary to maintain equipment and systems.
  • Procures equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently.
  • Repairs and paints wall surfaces for the purpose of maintaining and preserving facilities.
  • Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability and ensuring safety at work site.

Stadium and Field Management Duties:

  • Bathrooms - clean sinks, toilet and floor; throw garbage; restock product; monitor and maintain during event
  • Stadium - walk stadium and clean as needed; collect and get rid of garbage
  • Pressbox - lights, scoreboard, sound system, securing press box, garbage
  • Track/Field - Make sure turf field rules are being followed; make sure all garbage is gone at the end of the night
  • Concessions Area - Make sure garbage is thrown and the area is left clean
  • Security/Gate Management - Open/Close Gates

Other Functions:

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Repairs furniture and equipment for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities, preferably in school and/or institutional setting.

  • Valid Driver's License & evidence of Insurability

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials, equipment, and supplies, safe work practices.
  • Skills to use cleaning agents; supplies and equipment; perform basic math, to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents.

Working Conditions:

Ability to stand for prolonged periods, follow oral and written instruction, adhere to safe work practices, work independently and with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, adjust to flexible assignments often with short notice, and communicate with students, staff and the public.

Mental Demands: Usual office working conditions with exposure to numerous distractions and interruptions. Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time. Requires concentration and attention to detail for repetitive tasks; may deal with distraught or difficult individuals.

Physical Demands: Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping, reaching/handling, near/far visual acuity/depth perception. Must be able to lift, carry, pull and/or push up to 50 pounds.

Examples of lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling are furniture, wastebaskets, dumpsters, ladders, floor polishers, vacuums; stooping is trash, sweeping, vacuuming; reaching/handling are vacuum, supplies, broom; visual acuity/depth perception is seeing where to clean, vandalism.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals, wax strippers and electric cleaning equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Protective equipment: rubber gloves, safety glasses, dust mask provided by school district. Protective shoes (no open toes or heels, sandals, thongs, slippers) to be provided by employee.

Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
