Custodian - Full or Part-Time

IC Imagine Public Charter School in Asheville, NC is seeking a Janitor for summer and evening hours.

The janitor is an energetic and highly motivated individual. They are detail-oriented, flexible and willing to take on non-routine cleaning and special projects as the need arises. The Janitor will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing classrooms and offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms, and public areas. The position may require anywhere from 25-40 working hours. The schedule is set by the supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform general clean and sanitizing of all areas of the building as directed
• Manage routine upkeep of exterior areas, green space and parking lot
• Complete non-routine cleaning according to specified job orders
• Remove garbage and recycling daily and prepare bins for weekly pick-up
• Handle emergency cleaning and upkeep requests
• Ensure rooms are maintained and fully equipped
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
• Ability to observe safety and security procedures and to comply with policies
• Ability to read and interpret written information; ability to write clear statements; ability to communicate orally
• Must be able to do physical work and operate power equipment normally found in janitorial operations
• Attention to detail
• Ability to follow schedules and keep commitments
• Ability to follow directions from a supervisor
• Ability to demonstrate professionalism
• Must be able to manage time efficiently and to work individually as well as within a team

Education and Experience:

• Minimum High School Diploma
• 1 year of janitorial/custodian experience, preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods standing.
• Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
