Custodians are working on cleaning these rooms/areas with providing professional housekeeping duties to provide building tenants with clean and inviting work environments.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Sweeps, mops, polishes and strips floors in rooms and halls.
• Dusts and/or polishes furniture, blinds and equipment.
• Vacuums, spot cleans and/or extracts carpets, and furniture using commercial vacuum cleaners and extraction equipment.
• Assures all safety precautions are followed in the workplace.
• Cleans restrooms and fills dispensaries. This includes emptying trash cans, restocking of paper towels, toilet paper, and soap.
• Mopping of bathroom floors using housekeeping chemicals.
• Reports malfunctions of bathroom fixtures, light fixtures and/or damages to room and hall furnishings to Supervisor. May also replace light bulbs.
• Initiates work orders for repair/maintenance.
• Moves furniture, equipment or fixtures as required.
• Stocks area with appropriate supplies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge and ability to properly use custodial equipment.
• Ability to use machinery such as vacuums, floor buffers, and pressure washers.
• Communicates effectively in a professional manner.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and lift 50 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 6 months of janitorial/custodian experience.
