Custodian/Independent Living Skills Trainer

Concern Housing is seeking an Independent Living Skills Trainer/Custodian to be  responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout residential apartments while also providing hands-on instruction to residents who receive housekeeping support. This position teaches residents practical life skills related to cleaning and household maintenance that promote independence, dignity, health, and successful community living.

Days/Hours: Monday – Friday; 9am – 5pm or 10am – 6pm

Location/Travel Requirement: Based out of Ronkonkoma and will travel to Riverhead, West Sayville & East Patchogue

Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners.
• Notify managers concerning the need for repairs.
• Minor maintenance repairs as needed including changing light bulbs, filters etc.
• Always Wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment.
• Cleaning of individual apartments: kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, dusting of blinds, emptying trash baskets.
• Remain current with all Agency required compliance documents and training.
• Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
• Major periodic cleaning:
• Wash inside and outside of all windows, as assigned.
• Wash off marks on walls and doors.
• Dust door ledges and floorboards.
• Scrub bathroom floor, walls, and fixtures.
• Clean and/or shampoo carpeting and upholstery.
• May be required to assist with the clean up of areas damaged by residents.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or facility maintenance preferred.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities, behavioral health needs, or supportive housing populations is preferred.
• Ability to teach and coach life skills with patience, respect, and encouragement.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift to 40 pounds and perform frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and standing.
• Valid driver's license preferred, depending on agency needs
