The Opportunity
Mountaintop Construction Inc. is seeking an experienced Custom Home Lead Carpenter & Working Framing/Finish Superintendent to lead field construction operations across high-end residential and commercial projects in Northern New Jersey.
In this hands-on field leadership position, you will take operational ownership of site layouts, framing execution, custom cabinetry setting, architectural millwork, and daily crew management. Working directly alongside project managers, subcontractors, and apprentice carpenters, you will enforce strict quality craftsmanship, maintain safety standards, and keep builds progressing efficiently. Key Responsibilities
- Field Crew Leadership & Oversight: Lead, direct, and supervise daily carpentry operations, field laborers, and trade subcontractors on active residential and commercial jobsites.
- Blueprint Reading & Site Layout: Read and interpret architectural blueprints, structural schematics, and engineering details to execute accurate site layouts for walls, roofs, additions, and custom structures.
- Expert Hands-On Craftsmanship: Perform and oversee expert-level rough framing, structural modifications, custom cabinet installation, crown molding, trim millwork, and custom interior finishes.
- Subcontractor & Logistics Coordination: Coordinate daily site workflows with project managers, clients, and trade subcontractors (plumbing, electrical, HVAC) to ensure seamless build execution.
- Safety & OSHA Standards Enforcement: Enforce jobsite safety, conduct daily site inspections, maintain clean work zones, and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Apprentice Mentorship & Skill Building: Provide direct hands-on training, technical guidance, and task delegation to apprentice carpenters to build a high-performing field team.
- On-Site Problem Solving: Proactively identify architectural or structural field conflicts and implement creative, technical solutions to maintain project schedules and budgets.
What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications)
Required
- Industry Tenure: Minimum 5 years of dedicated carpentry and general construction experience, with proven success executing high-end custom residential builds from start to finish.
- Blueprint & Layout Mastery: Advanced proficiency in reading architectural drawings, calculating materials, and performing precise structural framing layouts.
- Advanced Trade Skills: High-level mastery of custom cabinetry installation, architectural millwork, rough framing, and interior/exterior finish carpentry.
- Field Leadership Track Record: Demonstrated capability to delegate tasks, manage daily jobsite workflows, and motivate field crews effectively.
- Mobility Credentials: Valid driver license with a clean driving record to operate company-provided field vehicles.
Preferred
- Language Capabilities: Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Construction Technology Competency: Familiarity with mobile construction management software (e.g., Buildertrend, Procore) or digital plan readers.
- Safety Credentials: Active OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.
