Build one-of-a-kind equipment as a Custom Industrial Fabrication Specialist

In Spartanburg, SC, a well-established manufacturer that has engineered and built material handling and processing systems for the wood products industry for 30+ years is adding a skilled fabricator to its team. Through Express Employment, this is a direct-hire, full-time, day-shift opportunity where you’ll own custom projects from layout to final fit-up.

A day in the shop

You start by reviewing an AutoCAD drawing set, translating blueprints and schematics into a precise layout. You measure, mark, and cut plate and structural steel. By mid-morning, you’re fitting frames and stainless components, then laying down clean, code-compliant welds—switching between MIG and TIG as the job demands. In the afternoon, you might air-arc gouge a repair, use oxy-acetylene for a controlled cut, and install replacement parts on a custom conveyor. Throughout the day, you maintain equipment, verify weld quality, and follow all shop safety standards.

Core responsibilities

• Interpret AutoCAD drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical references.
• Lay out, measure, cut, fit, and weld metal components for custom assemblies.
• Fabricate structural frames, plate work, and stainless-steel parts.
• Perform MIG, TIG, and other welding processes; inspect welds for quality and code compliance.
• Operate and maintain welding, cutting, and fabrication equipment.
• Use air arc gouging and oxy-acetylene equipment for fabrication and repair.
• Install new equipment and replacement parts.
• Adhere to all safety procedures and shop standards.

What you bring

• 7+ years of welding and fabrication experience.
• Proficiency reading AutoCAD drawings, manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
• Strong knowledge of core fabrication practices and welding techniques.
• Hands-on skill with hand/power tools, torches, chain hoists, hydraulic jacks, and precision measuring tools.
• Ability to perform shop math, including fractions and decimals.
• Welding certification or formal technical training.
