Your Role

Akkodis is seeking a Custom Software Engineer for a Contract job with a client in Chicago, IL (Remote). The ideal candidate must have strong experience in Mainframe Development, COBOL, and Enterprise Architecture Patterns, along with a proven background supporting mission-critical banking applications.

Rate Range: $66/hour to $69/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Custom Software Engineer job responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Mainframe applications using COBOL and related technologies.

• Analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable software solutions aligned with banking industry needs.

• Apply architecture patterns and software engineering best practices to enhance application design, performance, and maintainability.

• Develop and support application enhancements, system integrations, and modernization initiatives across enterprise platforms.

• Troubleshoot complex technical issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions to improve system reliability.

• Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, QA teams, and developers to ensure successful project delivery.

Desired Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

• 5+ years of experience with Mainframe Technologies.

• 5+ years of experience with COBOL Development.

• 5+ years of experience working with Architecture Patterns and Enterprise Application Design.

• Strong expertise in:

• COBOL

• Mainframe Development

• Software Engineering

• Enterprise Application Development

• Application Maintenance & Support

• System Integration

• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise applications in production environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Banking or Financial Services industry experience.

• Strong client communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Experience working within Agile delivery environments.

• Knowledge of legacy system modernization and enterprise architecture frameworks.

• Experience collaborating with distributed development and support teams.

Pay Details: $66.00 to $69.00 per hour
