Customer Account Specialist II (OPS)

The City of Tallahassee is seeking Customer Account Specialists to join our team. In this role you will serve as a first point of contact for City customers, providing accurate information and resolving concerns with professionalism and care.

This is a single opportunity with two service areas. Based on your strengths and the needs of the City, you may be assigned to the area that best fits your skills.

Utility Contact and Walk-In Representative

This position operates in a fast-paced, analytical, and technology-driven environment, well suited to strong problem-solvers who perform well in a structured, high-volume call center.

What You'll Do:

  • Assisting residential customers by phone with inquiries related to electric, water, gas, sewer, solid waste, stormwater, and fire service fees.
  • Investigating and resolving billing discrepancies, explaining rate structures, and processing secure payment arrangements.
  • Initiating new service connections, processing account changes, and accurately logging emergency outages and service complaints in the system.
  • Maintaining accurate customer records and ensuring all interactions are fully documented in the database.

Transportation Specialist

This position operates in a dynamic, active, and community-centered environment, well suited to engaging communicators who enjoy variety and dividing their time between phone support and in-person public interaction.

What You'll Do:

  • Supporting StarMetro riders by answering questions regarding fixed-route bus services and specialized Dial-A-Ride services.
  • Assisting passengers by phone and in person with route scheduling, connections, and efficient trip planning.
  • Staffing public-facing customer booths at designated transit locations to sell passes, distribute route maps, and provide welcoming service.
  • Resolving service questions, gathering rider feedback, and providing real-time schedule updates to support an excellent commuter experience.

Regardless of assignment, you will provide accurate information, resolve concerns with professionalism, and ensure every interaction reflects the Citys commitment to excellent service.

Minimum Training & Experience

Possession of a bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

or

Possession of a have a High School diploma or GED.

and

Four (4) years of staff, administrative, or professional experience that includes credit and collections, utility billing, utility accounts systems, or customer service.

Necessary Special Requirements

Individuals in this classification are considered essential during emergencies and storm events. They must be available to work extended shifts (12 hours or longer) for prolonged periods and may need to remain away from their families during the duration of the emergency event.

Salary Range

$18.6982 to $50.7388/hourly. Hiring rate generally will not exceed $27.5329/hour.
