Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintains the knowledge and flexibility to perform clerical duties in a variety of departments (ex: Circulation, Technical Services, etc.)
- Operates library automation system, performs circulation functions and inputs data.
- Inspects library materials for damage and cleanliness. Cleans and repairs materials as needed.
- Maintains knowledge of current electronic devices (i.e. eReaders, MP3s, IPods, etc.) and assists customers with the use of computers, printers, and electronic devices.
- Processes additions and withdrawals of library materials.
- Answers directional questions in person and over the telephone. Responds to customer concerns regarding issues specific to Circulation and Technical Services.
- Collects and counts money contained in cash registers and coin operated library equipment, as requested.
- Distributes in-coming mail to library employees and processes outgoing mail, as requested.
- Sets up audio-visual equipment for meeting room and auditorium use as needed.
- Maintains files and records and gathers library statistics.
- Shelves materials and keeps collections in order.
- Operates basic office equipment (i.e. computer, copier, multi-line phone, fax machine, etc.) Supplies copier and fax machine with paper and/or toner as needed.
Other Duties:
- Provide clerical support to other departments.
- May oversee work of Pages as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of: library policies and procedures; computers and electronic devices and their application; library automation functions; Dewey decimal system.
- Ability to: perform general physical labor; alphabetize and file; accurately count currency and coins; operate basic office equipment and electronic devices; develop and maintain good working relationships with library customers, supervisors and co-workers; maintain confidentiality of confidential and sensitive subject matter.
- Skill in: operation of computer; operation of current electronic devices (i.e. eReaders, MP3s, IPods, etc.) general clerical skills; organizing documents in alphabetical and numerical order; handling small sums of money and making change; general typing; communicating effectively with library co-workers and customers.
Physical Demands/ Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a standard, climate-controlled library environment. Potential hazards include falling books or shelving. While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly performs general physical labor when lifting books, stocking shelves, unpacking boxes and setting up equipment. The employee exhibits digital dexterity when working on the computer. The employee frequently stands and walks for extended periods if assigned to the Circulation Department, and sits for extended periods if assigned to Technical Services or the Computer Lab. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when using a computer screen.
