Hicks Nurseries, the premier retail and wholesale garden center on Long Island, is looking for Seasonal Customer Service Associates for our busy Fall season!

Customer Service Associates provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with loading merchandise, supporting in-store needs, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of customer pickup and parking areas, and ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for customers and team members.

Key Responsibilities:

Load Sold Merchandise into Customer Vehicles

• Safely load bagged goods, sod, trees, shrubs, plants, and other merchandise into customer vehicles using proper techniques
• Use authorized equipment appropriately.

Assist Customers and Co-Workers In-Store

• Help customers and team members with heavy, bulky, or out-of-reach merchandise.
• Respond promptly to cashier, sales, and merchandising staff requests for assistance.

Manage Shopping Carts and Baskets

• Collect and organize shopping carts and baskets from parking lots and store areas.
• Remove and dispose of trash from carts and baskets.

Maintain Customer Pickup and Parking Areas

• Keep customer pickup areas, parking lots, and assigned spaces clean, organized, and safe. Promptly remove trash.
• Assist with maintaining inventory in the Customer Pickup Area.

Support Merchandise Security

• Check customer receipts according to established protocols.
• Remain alert to activity in the Customer Pickup Area to help prevent loss.

Provide Excellent Customer Service

• Cheerfully greet customers.
• Answer customer questions and provide directions or assistance as needed.
• Basic computer literacy
• Attention to detail
• Able to juggle multiple tasks
• Ability to communicate effectively in English - reading, orally, and in writing

Work Requirements

• Near-constant physical activity required, including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, squeezing, and grasping.
• Fine motor skills requirements include peeling off labels from a strip of labels, keyboarding, using a computer mouse, and writing.
• Must be able to consistently lift 40-50 lbs. independently.
• Must be able to push/pull wheeled carts of 400 lbs. consistently.

Work Environment

• Fast-paced, team-oriented setting
• Greenhouse-based location with fans and cooling devices (no air conditioning)
• Temperatures during warm-weather seasons may exceed 90°F

Additionally, we are Long Island's largest Christmas store selling fresh trees, wreaths, roping, and centerpieces; artificial trees and greens; indoor and outdoor lights and lawn décor; ornaments and collectibles of all types; and much more!
