Job Description

At the Department of Public Utilities, customer service is more than answering questions-it's helping residents and businesses access essential services that support their daily lives. In this role, you will assist customers with utility account inquiries, process account transactions, and provide support that helps ensure a positive customer experience. What You'll Do

As a Customer Service Clerk I, you will:

  • Assist customers in person and by phone with utility account inquiries and service requests.
  • Provide information regarding utility billing, payments, services, and City policies and procedures.
  • Process utility account transactions, payments, service orders, and account updates accurately and efficiently.
  • Enter, update, and maintain customer account information within the utility billing system.
  • Prepare and maintain records, reports, and related documentation.
  • Process incoming correspondence and route information as appropriate.
  • Access available information sources to answer customer questions and provide assistance.
  • Collaborate with team members and other City departments to provide excellent customer service.
  • Perform related clerical and customer service duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
